2010 May 28 G.LELW 9 + 15 Hours Hike

By Kwee Hoon....
2010 April 14th - ODA almost withdraw LELW expedition from ODA activity calendar due to short of manpower support on this expedition, as PST, ABS, Monica and Jimmy confirmed they're unable to assist in this expedition. After long discussion with Sian Seong, trip leader INSISTED that no matter what, ODA will proceed once its been put in the activity calendar, because of his strong believe, all of us have the chance to visit LELW plus excellent trip planning. Being as ODA adviser, my role is to support whatever decision made by committee; Although schedule is very tight, but there is No Excuse, Only Solution in ODA
A few alternatives we've came up with such as: -
Reduce numbers of participants, seek for other experience, trustworthy members assistance. 2 person came across my mind which I know its time to call for extra hand on this expedition - Lee Chee Loong and Yu Kwan Leong. After few text message with them, checking on their own schedule, they confirmed to assist ODA on LELW expedition. 2 guys who I know they will always being as ODA backup, ODA Good Buddy in any situation.

2010 April 17th - Trip leader, PST, ABS, Monica, HFY, Puffy, LCL and YKL took off at 6am to Sg Dara campsite for LELW trip pre-marking. ODA last visit to this mountain was on 2006 with different committees.Mission been accomplished although some ODA being very ill after the pre-marking trip.
2010 May 1st after Bujang Melaka trip, ODA received another good news from Tapah members that they will be part of the LELW expedition, at the same time PST and ABS confirmed they will do "Connecting Journey" after their China Trip. Lots of Pre-Trip preparation tasks being done beside the pre-marking, such as Sian Seong and PST repairing flysheet during raining moment, hiding underneath to identify each leaking spot to touch up the flysheet with waterproof liquid; Pitch up all ODA 15 Domes to identify broken poles, and disconnected pole string; tested all imperfect stove and gaz lamp; Re-check ODA 1st Aids. All I can say is just ONE word "Thanks to Trip Leader, ODA Committees and 2 ODA Buddies for all the Pre-trip Preparations".....
All of us who came back from LELW, know that it's a tough mountain. A mountain that really tested our physical fitness, mentality, patience and will power !!!! I believe for all who reached LELW Peak feel quite disappointing as there is no magnificent view awaiting and yet slippery trail defeated some of ours descending confident. Of course for our strong, speedy guys/gals like Vivian Lim Vui, Hui Sim, Alistair, Siu Kat, Simpson, Chong Ee and Wai Kit, slippery trail is no longer an issue for experienced hikers like you all. Thanks for helping others carrying the backpacks, assisting them on the whole expedition. As for 1st timer or our new joined members such as Ah Moy, Boon Tzong, Pei Yu, Woon Teen, Mok Ying, Steve Lo, Hai Feng, Kok Onn, Lip Onn, salute to each of your strong determination to complete the expedition even though its long trail, empty stomach, slippery trail, soar legs, and heavy loads situation.
It is an expedition which let us witness a healthy marriage, relationship and friendship should be. Seeing Boon Tzong and Ah Moy walking shoulder to shoulder, hands holding hands, stepping out each small step together for the whole 9 ++ hours inspired me that the true meaning of life partner
The Apology face showed on Ah Moy's face whenever we've eye contact. I realize that she will blame herself on slowing the whole group. In fact, it's not a racing expedition, it's a teamwork expedition. What is the glory for being the 1st man to reach destination while our team mate still struggling at the back???? What is the meaning for mountain climbing when others still running up and down to assist and yet we are sitting around, relaxing and blaming others being slow??? Luckily this is something not happening in ODA expedition.....
Seeing Johnny and Mok Ying being as brothers, walking together, resting together, continue together reminds me of "Companionship" in the jungle. Although Mok Ying is having a very difficult time which smiles have disappear on his face, but Johnny in the other hand as a good buddy still making lots of jokes with us hoping it will cheer up Mok Ying.... I will always remember "leng chai bo lat and Not Ugly U Lat" jokes .....
Hopefully Mok Ying will realize that when situation is tough, soar face will not ease the whole situation, but happy feeling, jokes will reduce the pain.
An expedition that has breaks ODA records which we have the longest hike ever within One day. The last few hours after dark, before reaching car park seems like never ending trail. The sticking together situation,  early depart group insist of waiting at car park for others is the energy that driven us, the last group to keep walking and reach car park no matter what. Cause we know our friends are waiting for us OUT there!!!!
I remember there is a same phrase we share during the night walk moment was "I can't feel my toes, it's numb!!!" Each time we finish this sentence, we continue to walk again. We've reaching another stages of self compromise and self tolerance.
2010 May 28th LELW expedition has ended, I hope this expedition will able serve a good life lesson for each of us. Always remember that no matter what happen externally, the internal will power is the key that determine the outcome!!!!
My Best Wishes to all LELW Expedition Members/Buddies. It's an honor to complete the expedition with each of you... Cheers!!!!
