Last weekend, I joined ODA to go to Gunung Nuang. It's a wonderful experience mainly because I could get closer with the nature and understand our Mother Earth better. How can we learn about Mother Earth when we were surrounded by concrete houses, buildings and cars?
I was really excited when I managed to reach the Peak, especially after hours of hiking on steep and slippery trails; plus, I couldn't wait to eat when I reached there. As the team and I found a spot where we could sit down to have our lunch, I was surprised to see somethings all around the place besides plants and trees. The somethings are RUBBISH, mostly food wrapping papers. I knew that weekend, Lolo Campsite was filled with people camping there. I thought that it was good to see people using their holidays to get closer to nature until I reached the Peak and seeing the rubbish. I guess people just got excited about reaching the top so they decided to leave something there as souvenir for Gunung Nuang. How generous!
I remember before reaching Lolo Campsite, there was a sign saying "Bring Back Nothing Except Memories and Pictures". I believe those who been there are obedient to this rule, which is good. Next time when I go there again, I hope to see another sign saying "Nuang Wants Only Memories of You Been Here, Not Your Rubbish".
It's good that ODA always remind us do not leave any rubbish behind and their green spirit sure to be a role model. I'm sure there are still people out there just like ODA, though might be in the minority. Hopefully more people would realize the importance in taking good care of the environment in this Earth Day and the rest of the days to come. Peace :)
