2008 Oct 25th - 27th Gunung Angsi

Fifteen of us :-
2008 Oct 25th Gunung Angsi - Yeah !!!!

A special thanks to Chian Ni, Siew Ting, Miing Rueng and Andy who have work so hard to push and pull the Angsi trip through, on day 1 when the invitation been sent, follow by the precise preprearation, briefing, meal plan, equipments and 100% support during trip. They have gave each of us zero worry on everything!!!

For most of us, Angsi is not easy to climb, briefing is not convenient to attend, rucksack packing is complicated, rucksack is too heavy to carry, dinner is difficult to cook, dome is too small to sleep in, water is too cold to bath. Look at the sunset picture on the right at Angsi peak on 2008 Oct 26th, 6.45pm..... it's definately worth it !!!!
"Welcome to the hiking world"

Gunung Angsi is the first mountain in my hiking bookmark. Without Gunung Angsi, there will be no hiking activity in my life. Each time when i reached Kak Lang campsite, i will make sure i dipped into the waterfalls, no matter for long or short moment. It reminds me of 16 years ago, i was brought by my teacher to this place, and few of us been half forced, half dragged by teacher to dip in the cold waterfalls at 2.00am.

My teacher said to me," 20 years later, if you have chance to visit this place, you will find out that this waterfalls might be no longer here, or maybe the water flow been changed, probably you will feel regret and sorry to yourself, that actually many years ago, you have the chance to try out this water, but you have let it slipped away from you. So grab the opportunity whenever you have to try out anything that is new to you, or you feel afraid of, so that you get to know how far you can face challenges in your life and how much you can tolerate and accept."
Until today, i feel thankful to my teacher, that he has insisted few of us to take the challenge of dipping ourselve into that cold water at 2 o'clock in the morning. My life changed ever since that 1st Angsi trip, no matter in my education, life, ODA or career.

16 years later, Kak Lang waterfalls remains, waterflow have changed, toilet been built exactly on the spot where i slept 16 years ago. Campground area getting wider, trees getting taller, from a hyperactive kid to hyperactive adult. Things keep on changing everyday, the world will not stop spinning because of one person's problem, other people will still keep on proceeding no matter you feel that your backpack is too heavy to carry, or you would like to quit, the trip still keep on although you have give up.

It's not an easy trip for most of us, since we have credited our bank account to join the trip and have tortured ourselves with uncomfortable sleep, food, trail, heavy backpack, hot sun, cold waterfalls. Why not we grab the opportunity to truly enjoy the trip, build our inner strength, seeks for joys and happiness out from the challenges. “全力以赴“

"Stop looking what you can't do, start searching on what you can do"
Throughout the years, one of the thing i truly have experience from mountain climbing activity is our mindset. During difficult situation, facing tough trail, if i think of tough, the situation will remain tough, and the tough climbing memory will planted in my memory and follow me forever. Therefore, i started to change my "self talk" when i hike. Slowly, i able to use my mind/thoughts control my movement, and not letting my movement or organ sensor control my thoughts whenever i hike nowadays.

“虽然我们不能事事顺利, 但我们可以样样都尽力”
The trip schedule is not the same as how it appears in trip planning. However, each of us have prove that we are ready to react and response to any unpredicted changes in plan/life. We have let go the "It's All about Me, I am important" attitude, and have contribute each of our effort in order to accomplish the whole team's mission and goal.

Few days after Angsi trip, there are several significant incidents that still remain fresh in my mind, and through these incident, i have once again learn some good values from each of the members.

You Don't Need To Be Important, You Just Have To Be Significant"
  • Tata demo on setting up dome alone had inspired me that "there is nothing we can't or don't know how to do it, it is about whether we want to do it or not."
  • Pei San introduce a new breakfast recipe
  • Ah Thoo's phone has the most meaningful songs
  • Chue Ling didn't give many cold joke, but i remember hers' the most.
  • Chak Hiong is very popular with lots of phone calls
Vivian plan to carry the watermelon to peak, but we have finished it on 1st night. 2nd day, he carried 5 bottle of water to substiture the weight.

Pooi Kuan glasses is missing, how she reach the peak and back to KL without clear vision? I admired her Strong Determination - Nike spirit. (No Excuses, Just do it)

Eng Boon is getting more and more fit each i met him, i still remember his 1st mountain trip :)
Jai Wong didn't have much picture in the whole trip, because he too busy captured all of our pictures, which is total of 400 ++ trip picture in his camera
Sam told me, "she will never ever climb mountain with backpack again." I am pretty sure that i will keep on seeing her again and again in ODA trips.

2008 Angsi Expedition, i hope it will not be your 1st and final hiking trip in your life chapter. I do hope this trip has bring some good values, joys and great memory in your life album. Thanks to each of you for the great companionship, It's nice meeting each of you in the trip :-

"天将降大任于斯人也,必先苦其心志,劳其筋骨,饿其体肤,空乏其身,

行拂乱其所为也,
所以动心忍性,增益其所不能

Nice people + Nice mountain + Nice waterfalls = Unforgettable memories

Thank You, We'll Meet Again !!!!!
