Amazing G.Datuk/Angsi July 2010 !!

Congratulations to every G.Angsi/Datuk expedition participants for completing a trip full with challenging (Night walk, Night bath, bad weather, etc) !!

After 2 years, ODA decided to conduct a trip to G.Angsi again…But, due to some problems from G.Angsi office, we again, decided to change our destination to G.Datuk, another mountain which majority participants in this trip never visit before.

For me, the most significant event during this trip was raining heavily after we taking photos in G.Datuk Peak. We only managed to take a few photos at G.Datuk’s Peak, before raining. All those ladders become very slippery, and therefore we have to be extra careful when we descend from G.Datuk’ Peak especially when we go down by using all those ladders.

When we realised that rain is getting stronger and stronger, then we decided to stay at a small cave until the rain stop. Thanks to Chee Loong for carrying up all other members backpackto the cave, so that all those backpack wont get wet. And also thanks to Chian Nii, forboiling some hot hot water for us.

Fortunately, after an hour of freezing, finally we able to leave the cave and continue descend to carpark.

Besides that, I’m very enjoy the time with my group (Group 1) members. They are Monica, Jai Wong, Adrian, Alfred, Xue Er, and also Yi Ming.

Group 1 leader, Monica - you has improved a lot from the last time I saw you which was East

West trip. This trip, from what I saw, you able to managed the group well by assigning tasks and items accordingly and able to get things done faster and better. Other than that, as a group leader, you willing to teach and share your knowledge with other group members, this is great ! Keep it up!!

Hope you can continue improve yourself and become better.

Jai Wong- Thanks for being our professional photographer and shooting so many of beautifulphotos during trips. Is not easy to carry a camera up and down all the time especially during hiking. Besides that, in this trip you are one of the most senior participants, and you willing to share your knowledge and skills with other group members which are still new.

Adrian- Although this was only your 2nd hiking trips with ODA, but you already started picking up some skills like cooking skills, assist in setting up flysheet, and etc. During the night at LubukPetai, if I’m not mistaken, the noodles that you cooked is tasty (far more better than Bujang Melaka trip potato), this showed the improvement in your cooking skill. Continue in your effort, Hope you can improve more in coming trips !!

Alfred- After January G.Datuk trip, 6months later, you visited G.Datuk again..hahaha..But this trip you are different from previous trip especially you manage to overcome your fear and climbed to G.Datuk peak in one-shot. Congratulations !! Not only that, another good thing from you was this time you are more volunteer to do something like cooking, cleaning up after our meal, etc. Keep it on ! You can do better !!

Yi Ming & Xue Er- This trip, finally we put both of you into the same groups !! This is the 2nd trip with ODA for both of you. Both of you has improved and perform better in this trip. Xue Er prefer cooking more than preparing ingredients while Yi Ming always like to preparing ingredients. So when preparing our meals, both of them will always work together to get it done faster. Without the effort from both of you, I think we will not get our meals done so fast. Thank you !! =)

Last but not least, thanks to Trip Leader, ODA Pang Siew Ting for putting so much of effort in planning and preparing items for this amazing trip. She startedto plan and even do pre-marking for this trip very early to ensure that everyone are able to enjoy the trip. Other than that, she also the person who bought all the food for our trip ! Once again, Thank you !!

And of course, thousand of thank you to our ODA Advisor, Miss Lim Kwee Hoon for spending a lot of time for the preparation of this trip too. She always be the one who guided us from before trip preparation( pre-marking, trip planning, and etc) until the trip end. We have to thanks for her for creating so much of joke and bring us so much of fun during trip..Thankssss !!!

Lastly, thanks to all others ODA Committees, Chian Ni & Bee Suan for helping out and take caring participants during trip, and Jimmy for helping us for the preparation for trip. Without all the help from everyone, we can’t make this trip a success!! Thank you !!

Gunung DATUK

Hi guys, adrian here, with the 2nd ODA trip feedback.

When I was observing the shadow cast by every little things on the ground, even trees, rocks, sand and everything that our human eye can see.Its the work of God and mother nature. Shadow cast by big trees in the forest, serve as a shelter for us when the sun is shinning bright, filter out heavy downpour, big rocks, overhead of us,serve as a refuge for us when there is lightning striking fiercely out there. why is human never satisfy with what is given to us? why even bother to destroy it?

2nd trip for me is quite interesting, as I'm starting to learn something deep, deep within me and the whole team who is around me. Its a chance for everyone to gain something from the nature.
tiring is one thing, joy is the other! Great work for ODA to still keeping up the good spirit of bringing everyone together to appreciate the greens.

Well, first time feeling the rain on top of the mountain. It's cool though, trying hard to scramble down from top to the bottom was really a nice thing to do, jumping all the way down. But hey folks!I'll be sure to bring more raisins next time =D

and special thanks to the organizer and my team members and my leader MONICA! you've been very helpful! and you all are really cool!!!ROAR!
and thanks to my wax which has helped my hair to keep standing for the whole 2 days =P

2010 July "WOW" G.Angsi/Datuk Expedition

It is definitely a WOW expedition.
WOW for closing the dateline earlier - Original target is 25, but we have actual 29 registered members.
Wow for been chased by the Ulu Bendol Ranger - 1st time happen in ODA history
WOW for changing the venue on the spot - Everyone agreed upon. Even for members who been to G.Datuk for many times such as Jai Wong, Tata + OPY and Alfred. They AGREED too, Great Outdoor spirit !!!!
WOW for late late Dinner and Bath - No one fainted, gastric or hypothermia
WOW for staying up late - Good junk food sharing moment, thanks to Chee Loong (official sponsor for trip) and Tata.
WOW for lots of noodle meal plan - Bravo to our trip leader for her creativity in meal plan. After all, after more than 80 trips within 5 years, what to eat during hiking trip, which is acceptable, suitable and yet fulfilling is always the biggest challenges. She really takes lot of time to come up with the meal plan.
WOW for the weather - Very rare that G.Datuk will rain during that hour.
WOW for everyone who still able to smile and feel satisfied even the view at Peak is been blocked - G.Datuk is always a almost 100% guarantee nice peak scenery.
WOW for holding on for hours under heavy rain and wind - When received the message from Sian Seong stated "heavy rain, can't proceed" - We're worried, luckily heavy rain came after everyone is down from the Rock at PEAK - We're Blessed.
WOW for Adrian's hair - Let's see whether his hair still able to stand at Yong Belar trip?
WOW for lots of comments on Nice trip photo at Facebook - Jai Wong complaints that Email account been jammed up by facebook notification, but he forgot who is the one snapped all those nice photo.
WOW for meeting New and yet Good members - Foong Sim, Sim Yee, SawKien (Sorry for taking up your tent space, bad Puffy). As well as Kai Yee and Poh San. Although is a short trip, but really have good laughs with you all.
WOW to our main chefs - Tata, Weng Kit, Poh San who descend fast and make sure hot soup, hot drinks is ready for everyone who is behind.
It's always a WOW to meet you all again trip after trip - Sunway College + Doctor, Genting and The 3 Musketeers
Last WOW - ODAs (Pang, Sian Seong, Chian Nii, Bee Suan, Monica, Puffy) + ODA Behind Scene Men - Chee Loong, Jai Wong, Tata).
Thanks for keep on organizing wonderful trip for everyone, thanks to ODA's Men for always being the backbone supports.
G.Datuk is always a special mountain to ODA, as this mountain is where ODA been born 5 years ago. Lots of good memories, ODA history hide inside this mountain. It's a special trip to all of us as well, as we've experience among the most heavy rain on top of the mountain. This trip, is definitely will be kept inside my personal hiking log in "Special Trip Category".

2010 July 17&18 *Gunung Bunga Buah->Gunung Angsi->Gunung Datuk*

July 17&18 expedition is very special for me. We have change from Gunung Bunga Buah,Selangor to Gunung Angsi, Kuala Pilah and finally to Gunung Datuk, Rembau. For some new friends who did not know, before that we had planned to visit Gunung Bunga Buah which is near to Genting Highland. But 2 weeks before to trip,we went to pre- making and had realized that not so suitable for new members. So, we have come out a decision to change venue to Gunung Angsi.

Gunung Angsi is my first mountain to visit in my life. I have decided to explore again with all members. Who know when visited Gunung Angsi, we have been chased by the officer few times which is not allowed us to camp at the area. They have added more rules and regulations. Thanks for all members are agree to change venue to Gunung Datuk with us. Eventhough, some of the members had visited Gunung Datuk before, but i am sure you all had experiences the different feeling on every hike.

When saw the photo capture at the Peak, i have a very different feeling come out from my mind. I was thinking "In 5 years hiking with ODA, we had went to atleast 20 times to Gunung Datuk but this is the first time i didnt get to see the beauty city in seremban town. Just reached the Peak within 5 minutes, all the cloud are around them. And start to raining!!!!" I believe Alfred, Chee Loong, Tata, Jai Wong who is went to Datuk before, they will see the different view in Gunung Datuk Peak.

I just simply love mountain activity, back to 5 years ago "ODA Pretty Enstein Lim" a.k.a "Laosi" had told me this before. "Eventhough Mountain activity is a very tough activity, but through out the activity you will see everyone with their real characters" (cited in 2006,Laosi). Because, some people will decided to let the bad situation turn become better. But, some people will appear with their real face in bad situation like acting become self-fish. Thanks Tata - cooking the mee for everyone when early reached Ranger office. Adrian - to boiled the Milo for everyone.Chee Loong to move participants backpack to avoid getting wet in heavy rain. Chian Nii - to boil the hot water to everyone. Monica - to take care all participants in raining. Sian Seong and Bee Suan - keep trying to searching the phone line to contact with Laosi and me.To make sure all the members are in safety mode all the times.

Thanks to our old friends : Min Choo, Tata, Xue Er, Yi Ming, Alfred, Adrian, Phey Ying, Poh Ling, Eng Wah, Ser Siew, Jie Yi come along to join us again and bringing all you friend to the outdoor activity with ODA.

Great to know new friends in ODA trip : Sim Yee, Fong sim,Saw Kien, Poh San, Kai Yee. Everyone with their happy characters and bringing alot of funs in the trip.

Thanks to Datuk Trip Drivers: Laosi, Chee Loong, JaiWong, Weng Kit, Poh San, Kwang Leong. To make sure everyone depart and come back safety from Datuk trip.

Finally, ofcouse want to praise an excellent team mates in ODA : SianSeong, Monica, Bee Suan, Chian Nii and Fu Yaw, Miing Rueng, Gah Gee (who is currently at outstation) who always make sure all the trip in ODA are run smoothly and safety.

Hope to see everyone in coming ODA activity!!!!!

Siew Ting
