Gunung Ulu Sepat Expedition 2009

Completed Ulu Sepat marks the final trip of ODA in the year 2009 which also marks the final G7 mountain of ODA... i would like to thank and appreciate all of everyone that direct or indirectly assist us in completing this mission. In life, completing a feat/goal/achievement does not represent a person's greatness or ability, but represents the team/group behind that gives unconditionally supports.

Before this trip started, we encounter an obstacle. That is regarding the guide issues to Ulu Sepat that we manage to overcome it. If we set our mind to complete something, no matter what happen we will overcome it -- or at least we tried our best to do it. Special thanks to Ah Meng that help us alot and also Hussein that we have never met during the whole trip.

Some say Ulu Sepat is the easiest G7 of the 7......for me each mountain has its own difficulty. For this trip is long hours of driving+2 hours of boat ride(plus raining and wind) +plus 30minutes of 4wd (havent included the time we stuck in the mud)+ lots of agas (Luckily our guide is good at fire). When our 4wd got stuck in the mud, makes me recall back previous trip that we have a ride on 4wd. ( G.Chamah - Teh tarik and mud , G.Yong Yap - Muddy Mud, G.Yong Belar - Muddy trail at Vegetable farm).

When we are about to reach kota kemuning back from Ulu Sepat, laushi ask who is the person that i miss most on hiking(not including her as she is in the list)--- in my mind is Miing Rueng and Andy or can say is 2009 Tahan Team. Really hope one day we will be able to hike together once again...or best is we could gather all ODA to one trip and have a great time hiking together....

Lastly, what do you feel after completed G7?? ----actually i also do not know how to answer..haha...but i think that completing G7 is not one mans power...really depends on teamwork and who we go with. Most important is the journey and not the destination...And the same rules apply, after reaching the peak we have to come back down and start anew again. There is a saying that we need to do 21 times in order to make a thing as a habit(21 times complete G7?? or 21 times to G7 mountain or 21 time hiking ???---haha.....) ...Really learned a lot from G7 and what have learn is just the tip of iceberg...there are still alot of mountain other than G7 that we could learn from...

Thanks to Ah Pang for organizing this trip and laushi it is an honor to have completed your final G7 with you. Who we go with is more important than where we go to. Maybe all these years you are waiting for the right person and timing to finish G7. For sure i will not be able to do it without ODA . i Will come back to these mountain again....after all our goal is to share our passion and to share what we have learn.....Thats all for now...see you soon and dont forget to join us in 2010!!! Cheers!!

Gunung Ulu Sepat (G7) Expedition

Gunung Ulu Sepat (G7) Expedition (17th - 20th Dec 2009)

What G7 Mean?? 1st I also don't know much about it.
G7 mean, 7 highest mountain in West Peninsular of Malaysia. Below is the List :-
- Gunung Tahan (7,175 ft)
- Gunung Yong Yap (7,113 ft)
- Gunung Yong Belar
- Gunung Korbu (7,162 ft)
- Gunung Gayong
- Gunung Chamah
- Gunung Ulu Sepat

Gunung Ulu Sepat is ODA last trip in 2009.
This trip it bring alot of meaning to ODA, because ODA finish the G7 in a year and I think many people can't do it. Complete G7..... I think this is many hiker dreams... G7 not an easy mount... We need to get ourself ready such mentality, fitness, fisical and self motivate.

Gunung Ulu Sepat,

This is my first and last mount for 2009. In this pass 2.5 year I didn't Join ODA for mount climbing and even didn't do any exercise. When Lao Shi called me for Ulu Sepat one of the G7. I really scare and make me can't sleep well for a week. Sometime I started imagine how the Ulu Sepat trail look like. Iz up up up or up down up and down. I also told myself everything will be alright. I need to do is make my mentality and fisical more strong and strong and said to myself that I can do it. That whole week night before I sleep I told myself that "I CAN DO IT" * 3.

Until the day come. I not been prepare myself. I make alot of mistake.... I didn't prepare my personal item / task such touch light, lighter, campaign knife and etc. This is a big mistake I had been make. I promise for up coming trips i will prepare myself well.

Day 1, After work I rush to Lao Shi house wait for Vivian came and fetch us. In the car we chit chat alot because long time didn't meet up with them and everyone look great. Lao Shi, PST,SSS, and FY waiting at Ipoh. After we meet up, we start the journey toward Tasik Temenggor. When reach Tasik temenggor we chit chat with each other and prepare supper. After that we take a rest at Jetty.

Day 2, Rainy Day, we all wake up very early in the morning and prepare the breakfast. I think we all get ready about 8.30 am in the morning and wait for the boat. We all wait and wait but the boat haven came. Lao Shi come out with the plan. If the boat didn't turn up then we will have to follow the Plan B. At last the Boat Turn Up and that time around 10am. Before we take a ride, all wearing the rain coat only Vivian naked. The journey take about 2 Hours to reach Kg. Ledah.

When we reach Kg. Ledah Jetty, the 4wd is waiting for us. We all fast fast load the backpack from boat to 4wd. We take about 30 min to reach Kg. Ledah. Lunch time...All hungry, we all faster prepare the lunch and take it, because Gunung Ulu Sepat is waiting for us. We all get ourself ready with the hiking shoes and the journey toward Ulu Sepat begin.

When on my way, I feel difficulty. The trail up and down. Fitness = X, but I trust myself, I Believe myself, I force myself, no matter what happen I need to continue to reach the peak (AIM). Slow or Fast? I believe, if we set a target or AIM we sure will make it. Must Trust yourself. This really important. Here, I want to Thanks Lao Shi and ODA member and give me support and alot of guidance.

At last, reach G's parent house and he treat us Ubi Kayu Bakar. Nice and you cannot taste it in town. When look at their house it really simple. All make from Bamboo tree and how lucky we are. Their breakfast, lunch or dinner all is Ubi Kayu Bakar. Please don't too choosy we are very lucky.

Day 3, From the campsite we toward Peak. Today is rainy day also. The trail more tough. I about 10 - 20 min behind from them, but ABS and FY give alot support and at last I make it to the Ulu Sepat Peak one of the G7.

Day 4, Is time to go home. We pack all our stuff. We still left some food like rice, oil, salt and etc. We pass it to the G. It look very happy and we know he very hard to get all the stuff and poor. We hope it can help him little :) . He is a good G. Really good and kind person.

About 1pm we reach Kg. Ledah and have our lunch. We are ready to go back. 4wd vroom... vroom... sound is hearing... All take the backpack to the 4wd. Then the 4wd start bring us to the Jetty, suddenly...Gong....we hearing something...Ops the Car is stuck... 1st we all come down and helping to push the car and it didn't work. After that all the orang asli come out and helping us. At last the 4wd back on the trail.

2 Hours boat journey begin. At the boat all already tired and fall in sleep. When reach Tasik Temenggor Jetty we all feel good and back to ipoh have our dinner.

At last,
I wanna say congratulation to :-
ODA Advisor, Miss Lim Kwee Hoon,
ODA President, Pang Siew Ting,
ODA Principal, How Fu Yaw.
Which Complete G7....

2009 Dec 17 G.Ulu Sepat - G7 Completion

Prior to Ulu Sepat trip, many people ask :"Last G7, how you feel?" I can't answer it. After trip, many have congrates and asked me the same question, and I still unable to answer it but it is definitely a great 2009 closing for ODA with G7 completion - Congrates to ODA for 1st G7 Completion, especially to 2 main ODA G7 anchor - Pang Siew Ting and How Fu Yaw !!!! Thanks to both of you for carrying ODA Flag to the 7 x 7000ft' Mountains in Penisular Malaysia for the past 1 year. Lots of credits have given to the ODA who brought ODA flag to complete G7 cause they have been the frontline person who completed the ODA 2008/09 mission. If we look into more precisely, Actually the Completion Credits shall include All ODAs' and ODA Friends who have gone throug the whole G7 process together.
Here is the flash back :-
2008 - G.Chamah (PST, HFY, ACN, ABS)
2008 - G.Yong Yap (PST,HFY,ACN,YMR, GSC,CPK,LCS)
2009 - G. Yong Belar (PST,HFY,ACN,YMR,SSS,GSC,THW,YYJ,CPK,ERICA,LCL,AGNES,AMELIA,YKC)
2009 - G.Tahan (PST,HFY,YMR,GSC,SSS,THW,YYJ,CPK)
2009 - G. Korbu & Gayong (PST,HFY,SSS,ABS,ACN,GSC,LV,LWK,LSS,CPK,TJW,CHY)
2009 - G. Ulu Sepat(PST,HFY,SSS,KKX,ABS,LV,LWK)

For most of the people, completing G7 is the stage of the where we printed our footstep on every G7 peak. For my perspective, completing G7 is a remark of a person involvement on the Whole Planning, After Trip Recovering, Each Process Learning Lesson, Crossed Over on Each Obstacle, Self Evaluation, Inspiration,  Believing Power and most importantly - Gaining the Blessing and the Whole Team Support Behind the Scene.
For each ODA and friend mentioned above - My sincerce appreciation to you on your support, blessing for helping ODA complete the mission !!!!
THANK YOU VERY MUCH !!!!
The sucess story of ODA on G7 completion came from an idea, dream and turn it into reality. This reality had came with a great price which in order to complete the mission, we have spent a sum of RM 20,000 ++. It's quite a large sum for the whole mission, I believe that this sum of amount is worth it as it has built each of ODA that involved in the whole mission completion process become a Great Human Being.
G. Ulu Sepat - Consider the least challenges G7, but it has given ODA the biggest challenges compare to the rest of the G7. The challenges was came from externally where the guide we have engaged with the group of S.O.S cancel on us 20 hours prior we start the expedition with the reason of bad weather and no 4 wheel drive. Until today, it is a mist to me on the real reason of cancellation. As for all that been to any of the G7 before, S.O.S notes on G7 completion can be seen in all of the G7 peak, a team that able to complete G7 and able to guide other team to G7, should be a reputable and creditable team. But the last minute cancellation without discussion somehow have shaken the reputation of SOS team. Hopefully the guide who represented S.O.S will re-think on "Individual decision has defeated the whole team's years of hard work on gaining the market reputation and team's image"
___________________________________________________________________________________
Upon received the cancellation in mid-night, Sian Seong, PST and Fu Yaw started to search for last minute options that we have. Lots of sms discussion among us going on and finally with the help of good person - Ah Meng, who until today we still never met, but he has given ODA lots of other G7 info throughout the whole year.... we managed to get confirmation on other 4 wheel driver, boatman and guide, 1 hour before we suppose to depart. Along the way to Ipoh, heavy rainfall and foggy highway has alarm us on upcoming challenges we will face when on boat at Termenggor Lake, 4 wheel on muddy trail and in the jungle later.
8 of us have created a funny scene to others which we have put on the raincoat to keep our body warm while boating for 2 hours due to heavy rain and strong wind  except Lim Vui who is most of the time choose to be naked.
On 2009 Dec 19th,12.30pm - ODA Flag has once again rise on one of Penisular Malaysia G7 Peak and had marked ODA G7 completion.
Heavy rain while we reached Ulu Sepat peak didn't give us much time to release our G7 completion breath hence the heavy rain had alarmed us that we should descend quickly before the river water risen. the 30 minutes hiding under the flysheet has reminded me some of ODA previous G7 and Pre-Tahan trip such as heavy rainfall on 2008 Yong Belar Peak, Yong Yap Peak, 2009 Batu Putih Peak, 2009 Gedong Campsite, 2009 Korbu Peak. Each heavy rainfall scene appear pieces by pieces in front of me ; The scene on when we passed JD along to each other, hiding under flysheet, seeing the ODA guys ran out from flysheet in order to get something from backpack ; Scooped out the pounding water inside the dome; Sitting on Sleeping Mat to prevent pants get wet while cooking; Passing hot Milo to each other although sometimes really wish to hold on the warm cup longer on our palm but "The Cares of each other always able to Defeat "Individual Selfishness"  Whenever all these scene appear, I always able to feel warm in my heart and misses everyone.
Last night at Ulu Sepat, we have talked about "What Next" in our life. Some have shown interest in Iron Man Competition, to test out another type of endurance, to test out whether we can cross the finish line as Iron Man or Tofu Man? Some suggest that we should do Trans Titiwangsa V1, V2 and V3 now onward to test out the other type of G7 endurance. Some suggest that we should start explore East Malaysia's mountains. Lots of suggestions, but something for sure is ODA = Mountain Climbing. Completion of G7 is another new Begining of ODA Journey!!!!
Thanks to ODA for giving me the chance to visit G.Ulu Sepat at last.
Although severve weather had added some challenges to our 2009 Ulu Sepat Expedition,
But the Supports and Blessing from ODAs, Friends and Family have given me the STRENGTH to PROCEED and
 COMPLETE G7 after 17 Years!!!!

Gunung Ulu Sepat (G7) Expedition

Gunung Ulu Sepat Expedition

Year 2009 ODA had officially completed first round of G7!!! This is something great news to shared with everyone.

Before the expedition, we have faced some challenges.Such as before the date we depart, our guide just advised us to cancelled our trip to Ulu Sepat due to the raining season in the year end and cause the trail too muddy.Non of the 4x4 want to bring us enter the trail from Kg.Lasah to Kg.Lelar.I have informed Advisor Ms Lim regarding this news from our guide. She told me:"Siew Ting,no matter in what condition,we still proceed our plan".ODA never cancelled trip no matter in what condition and when the date we set to any trip".I say sure,no matter in what condition we still proceed to Ulu Sepat.Eventhough last minutes no guide and no 4x4 want bring us go in to Ulu Sepat, somehow we can look for others alternative plan to reached there as well - Never Give Up Until The Last!!!

Midnight,we have called Fu Yaw to search for some others contact which can bring us to Ulu Sepat.Such as others 4x4, boat transfers and guide.Ms Lim had also decided to depart early morning to Ipoh for look for more contact which can bring us to Ulu Sepat.Somehow, after Fu Yaw had due with fews resources, finally we had decided to take up the boat transfer from Jeti Banding to others Jeti which can lead us to Ulu Sepat.Ms Lim and Vivian have drive few more hours up to Grik in order to reached Jeti Banding - Strong Determination!

Early morning, i have called Chian Nii to search for others Mountain info. This is to make sure we have another backup plan.In case, until the last minutes we really cant visit Ulu Sepat then atleast we still can went to some others Mountain. For sure is in the Mountain, because we have set our mind set this week is the Mountain week!!! - Make Ourself More Flexibility.

For Wai Kit and Vivian, thank you for being trust ODA all the times.Eventhough I have informed both of you regarding we might not to get visit G.Ulu Sepat or maybe change to another Mountain.Somehow, both of you reaction are shown support ODA.They told me :"It is ok whether to reached Ulu Sepat, because for the last minutes changes nobody hope it is happen. If we really can't get in Ulu Sepat, is good can visit some others Mountain as well.We are ready to visit Mountain in this weekend!".The best support and spirit from both of you to ODA i will always remember it.

From all the process during ready to Ulu Sepat, it make me think that sometimes we might face some challenges in our daily life. But,this is the phrases that She(ODA Advisor, Ms Lim) has always told us, we are Mountain Climbers:
1. Never give up on what you have believe
2. We have strong determination then others dont have
3. Make ourself more flexibility

If you ask me how you feel after completed G7,I will tell you anyone can completed their G7,or any dreams as well in their life. But in the process to reached the dremas, what you have learn?Who will the one who completed the dreams with you togethers and how you complete it? All the process are important to reached the dreams rather then the person who stand on the top! Here,i would like thanks to all ODA committees who had really give the highly cooperation and support all the times.Without the support on everyone of you - Gah Gee,Bee Suan,Chian Nii,Sian Seong,Fu Yaw,Andy,Jimmy we will never achieve our dreams to G7.

"Every successful person have their painful story,Every painful story has a successful ending, Accept the pain and get ready for success" (cited Ms Lim,2008). Thank You Ms Lim who always deliver positive message and motivate me all the times.Congratulation to her for completed G7 in 17 years. Her strong determination had make her completed G7 no matter to used how many years.Another great news is congratulation to Fu Yaw.Within one year to completed his G7 trip.Included G.Yong Belar,G.Tahan,G.Korbu and Gayong,G.Chamah,G.Yong Yap,and G.Ulu Sepat.

Welldone, and see you guys in ODA coming trips!

Wonderful Ending of 2009 with Completion of G7

ODA Last Trip in year 2009 - Gunung Ulu Sepat Completed !!!

Firstly , Congratulations to :
ODA Advisor , Miss Lim Kwee Hoon ,
ODA President, Pang Siew Ting ,
ODA Principal, How Fu Yaw ,

For completing G7 which are the 7 highest mountain in West Penisular of Malaysia.
The G7 are included
-Gunung Tahan ,
-Gunung Yong Belar ,
-Gunung Yong Yap ,
-Gunung Korbu ,
-Gunung Gayong,
-Gunung Chamah
-Gunung Ulu Sepat.

G7 - Every G7 mountain have its own unique ''Personality" , Every G7 have their difficulty, many of people choose to give up half way towards the hiker's DREAM...its not easy to completed , but ODA did it !!

ODA not only bringing committees towards the Dream , ODA also brought alot of participants to pursuit and achieve the dream together . Although there are few participants which unable to complete the G7 together with ODA , but I sincerely hope everyone of you keep it up your effort , you will be success one day .

ODA Advisor - Miss Lim Kwee Hoon
ODA Mastermind , ODA Einstein, Congratulations to you...Finally you manage to achieved your dream. Thanks for bringing ODA together with you , without u , ODA unable to completed G7 within a year...Thanks for guilding and teaching us everything you know , and making jokes with us during every trips. Appreciate all your effort on ODA , without you , there no such thing called ODA .

ODA President
- Miss Pang Siew Ting

Miss Pang Siew Ting who are the person to leading ODA to completed G7 within a year. The completion of G7 within a year was resulted by her strong determination to achieve the dream. Every trip she worked very hard to search for info , contact and deal with a lot of problems before , during , and after trip. Without her effort , complete G7 within a year is just building castle in the air.

ODA Principal
- Mr How Fu Yaw
Mr How Fu Yaw is the committees among ODA who completed G7 in the shortest period , 1 year.
Its not easy to complete G7 within a year ... Fu Yaw sacrificed a lot of his time to planned for trip , to training , and etc. In the process of completing G7 , with the effort he put into it ,fuyaw improved a lot no matter in hiking skill , cooking skill , talking skill , etc ...all of this made him become one of the most important committees in ODA .

Back to Gunung Ulu Sepat expedition , we faced with a lot of problems and uncertainty. A day before trip , we receive a bad news from the guide we engaged , the trail of Gunung Ulu Sepat are badly damaged due to bad weather , he asked us to cancel trip. We refuse to cancel trip, then we start to think for alternative , finally we decided to use boat . Besides that , bad weather , mosquito , agas and etc also gave us a lot of troubles.

Gunung Ulu Sepat , compare with Gunung Korbu & Gayong , its distance is much shorter and the trail is much better , but it still have its own difficuties. For example , long hours of travel . Long hour of travel from KL to Pulau Banding , from Jetty to Kg Lela , it was very tiring . Maybe this is also the reason why other hikers seldom went to G.Ulu Sepat .

This trip goes very smoothly , thanks to the effort from everyone . Thanks for ODA Advisor , Miss Lim Kwee Hoon for never sleep at the night to think about the solution , Pang Siew Ting and Fu Yaw for busy looking for contact , Bee Suan & Chian Ni busy of buying vegetables and take care of miss Puffy . Without the coordination and effort of them , Gunung Ulu Sepat trip maybe cancel. Thank you !!

Paricipants coorperation also very important to us too. Thanks for Vivian and Wai Kit for joining and helping us out in this trip . Both of you created alot of jokes and helped to carried alot of load also.
Vivian - Thanks for bringing your camera to trip , if not , we wont have the chance to take photo...and you are such funny guy that always created jokes to make us laugh.
Wai Kit - You are the one who always walked in front and the first or second person reached the peak or campsite . Thanks for your Green Bean Soup at Camp Lenweng , it taste good . ^^

End of Gunung Ulu Sepat expedition , it means that end of ODA 2009 activities . Thank for everyone that supported ODA in year 2009... Hope everyone of you can keep on support ODA in year 2010 , your kindly support are fully appreciated . Thank you

G7 - G.Korbu & G.Gayong 26th Nov - 30th Nov 2009

。谢谢老师Ms.Lim, Trip Leader Andy, Pang , Fu Yaw , Sian Seong , Chian Nii。
FireMan。。
Mr Botak - Terima Kasih Guide Kita Jalan dan Share ur Mountain experiance History.

最后, 希望大家早日康复,Ulu Sepat 见吧。
